Lionel Messi’s Career Headers
Unstoppable Force
With doping allegations against Cristiano Ronaldo, countless accolades, championships and trophies under his belt, there is no question that Lionel Messi is one of the greatest footballers of all time. His technical abilities are unmatched and he is known for a lethal strike, both on the ground and up in the air. Out of all the spectacular goals of his career, the number of headers scored by Messi over the years is particularly extraordinary.
Headers Tallied
Throughout his time playing in Barcelona’s first team, Messi has scored a total of eleven headers:
- 2006/2007 Season: 1 Header
- 2007/2008 Season: 1 Header
- 2008/2009 Season: 2 Headers
- 2009/2010 Season: 1 Header

Reaching New Heights With Headers
Even though the number of headers scored during his entire career at Barcelona may not seem like much, Messi has still managed to make quite an impact with his goals from these situations, scoring some remarkable headers. Examples of these include a goal against Atletico Madrid at the Camp Nou in 2014 and a spectacular header against Olympique Lyonnais in 2018.
A Measly 11 Still
In light of Messi’s astonishing performances and impressive career, it is surprising that the total number of headers he has scored over the past 14 years is only 11. But this is testament to the fantastic technical and tactical abilities of the player, and to the fact that Messi is much more of a dribbler and a finisher than a header of the ball.
No matter what, however, Messi has made history, even when it comes to scoring headers. He may not have scored many of them, but his talent has transcended all expectations.
