Nolan Ryan’s career lasted 27 years
Nolan Ryan is considered one of the greatest Pitchers in the history of baseball. The right-hander played all 27 years of his career in the major leagues with the New York Mets, California Angels, Houston Astros and Texas Rangers.
Throughout his incredible career, Nolan Ryan earned many awards and accolades and set numerous records in the process. In total, he threw seven no-hitters, tossed 12 one-hitters, and finished with a record of 294–292, with a 3.19 earned run average. He is also the all-time leader in strikeouts with 5,714 and walks with 2,795.

- 330 wins. Ryan is the all-time leader in victories among pitchers who did not reach 400.
- 7 no hitters.He holds the record for the most no hitters of any pitcher in baseball history.
- 12 one hitters. Also holds the record for the most one hitters in a career.
- 5,714 strikeouts. Ryan leads all pitchers in strikeouts, with a record that may never be broken.
- 2,795 walks. Ryan is the all-time leader in walks.
Despite the impressive list of accomplishments, Nolan Ryan’s career was not without its share of controversy. Numerous head-to-head battles with fellow all-time greats such as Robin Yount, Pete Rose and Reggie Jackson earned him the reputation of being a “boogeyman” among his peers. Nevertheless, the right-hander was still able to excel and have a successful career that spanned 27 miraculous years.
In 2011, Ryan was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, becoming the 13th person to be elected on the first ballot. Although it has now been more than 25 years since Nolan Ryan played his last game, many of his achievements still stand today as a testament to his greatness.
