Don Shula’s Extraordinary Coaching Career
Don Shula was an American professional football coach and NFL’s winningest coach of all time. He began his career with the Baltimore Colts in 1963 until being released in 1969, when he was offered a head coaching job with the Miami Dolphins.
Accomplishments and Milestones
Throughout his 33-year coaching career, Shula achieved many remarkable milestones, including:
- Writing a winning record in every season
- Leading the Miami Dolphins to two Super Bowl victories
- Winning a total of 347 games, the highest by any NFL coach
- Being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1997
Life After Coaching
Shula retired from coaching in 1995 and began working in restaurants and hotels. He opened the Don Shula’s Hotel in 1997, which was the world’s first all-suite hotel. He was an active philanthropist and donated to many worthwhile causes, incluing $5 million to the University of Miami.
Shula died on May 4th, 2020 at the age of 90. His legacy will live on through his incredible coaching career.
